DRAPED BUST HALF
DOLLARS
1803 50C AU50
PCGS.
O-102a,
High R.3. Struck from the same obverse die as O-101 and 103. The reverse die is
different and can most easily be distinguished by 13 arrows on the reverse,
rather than the 12 that are seen on the O-101. There is also an obvious die dot
below the D in UNITED on the 102 coins. Nearly full luster is present with some
central weakness but otherwise sharp details. Both sides have pleasing
golden-rose color with hints of rose toning. A few scattered surface marks are
visible on each side, but none are significant. A few diagonal drawing lines are
evident at the lower left part of the obverse. These parallel grooves were
created when the silver strip was prepared by passes through the drawing machine
to achieve the desired thickness before planchets were punched from the strip. A
definite Condition Census coin. The finest examples listed on Stephen Herrman's
listing in auctions and mail bid sales are: 55/55, 55/55 (this coin), 50/50,
50/50, 45/45. $7450

Full mint frost, even over the high points of the cheek with a fantastic light
blue/rose and purple rainbow eye appeal. A very nice strike for an 1834 which
normally comes much more softly struck than this piece. A wonderful eye
appealing example of an early US half dollar. $4800 PCGS

Absolutely breath-taking for an O branch mint piece. Mega lustre with a light
golden/rose overlay with some light blue in the date. A monster strike for an O
mint with every detail fully struck. The reverse is blast white in the centers
with a golden periphery. A coin that has to be seen to be believed.
