DRAPED BUST HALF
DOLLARS
1803 50C AU50
PCGS.
O-102a,
High R.3. Struck from the same obverse die as O-101 and 103. The reverse die is
different and can most easily be distinguished by 13 arrows on the reverse,
rather than the 12 that are seen on the O-101. There is also an obvious die dot
below the D in UNITED on the 102 coins. Nearly full luster is present with some
central weakness but otherwise sharp details. Both sides have pleasing
golden-rose color with hints of rose toning. A few scattered surface marks are
visible on each side, but none are significant. A few diagonal drawing lines are
evident at the lower left part of the obverse. These parallel grooves were
created when the silver strip was prepared by passes through the drawing machine
to achieve the desired thickness before planchets were punched from the strip. A
definite Condition Census coin. The finest examples listed on Stephen Herrman's
listing in auctions and mail bid sales are: 55/55, 55/55 (this coin), 50/50,
50/50, 45/45. $7950

WB-101 R.3 Tremendous coin with lots of frosty eye appeal. Seated halves are becoming more

Lemon-gold
and light rainbows encompass the obverse peripheries for this deeply mirrored heavily frosted
better date proof Seated half. Cherry-red and blue toning circle the
periphery of the reverse. For proofs and business strikes combined, fewer than
10,000 pieces were struck in 1880.
PCGS pop is 7 with none higher.
The most recent auction archive for a similar coin graded by
PCGS PR66CAM CAC was at FUN in 2008. That coin was a white coin, not originally
toned, and it brought $9488.

A truly stunning coin with fantastic eye appeal and PQ surfaces. This is a rare
date in the Seated Half family. With a mintage of only 6130 pieces in all, to
find a Mint State example is difficult. To find a Mint State example with the
look that this coin exhibits if virtually impossible. Let the pics do the
talking. CAC stickered. $2875
